Sitejet Builder: Getting Started

What is Sitejet Builder? #

Sitejet Builder is a beginner friendly drag-and-drop style website builder and is available in cPanel through your Domain of One’s Own account.

Important Notice When Using Sitejet #

In order for the Sitejet Builder tool to work properly on Domain of One’s Own, you will you need to open up Sitejet in a new browser tab every time you want to use it. Below are instructions on how you can open the tool in a new tab and how your dashboard should look before and after using the tool.

Normally when you are logged into your DoOO dashboard, you’ll see the black bar the top:

To access Sitejet, right click on the Sitejet Builder in the sidebar and open link in a new tab:

You’ll no longer see the black bar at the top:

From there you will be able to use the Sitejet Builder as normal. You will need to do this every time you want to use the Sitejet Builder otherwise the tool will not function.

How is it different from WordPress? #

Sitejet is a user-friendly, drag-and-drop website builder ideal for beginners and those seeking quick, visually appealing sites, while WordPress offers more customization and scalability for complex projects and users comfortable with a steeper learning curve.

When should I use Sitejet? #

There are a variety of reasons you might choose to use Sitejet Builder and we encourage you to book an appointment with a Digital Knowledge Center consultant to talk through the details of your website to help you choose the right tool but here are some reasons you might choose Sitejet:

  • If you are looking to quickly build a static website to place your contact information, projects, or portfolio, Sitejet is a great option.
  • Beginner friendly: Sitejet uses a drag-and-drop style page builder
  • Analytics built in: Sitejet has this feature automatically, giving you a better insight into your website traffic

If your project requires a more complex website that requires functionality outside of what Sitejet natively offers an application like WordPress would be a better option as it offers more customization and flexibility in the design.

Creating a Sitejet Builder Website #

If you plan to use your main domain for your site you can skip to the Accessing Sitejet Websites section below.

1. To create a Sitejet website at a new subdomain open Sitejet Builder and click + Create a New Website:

Remember to open Sitejet Builder in a new tab.

2. Next, you will need to designate what URL you would like your Sitejet site to live at. We recommend creating a subdomain for your site. Please see our guide that explains subdomains if this concept is unfamiliar to you.

3. After typing in the URL click Submit.

NOTE: Depending on how many domains you have, it could take longer for the Sitejet site to be created. When it is finished, it will automatically take you to the Sitejet editor.

Accessing Sitejet Builder Editor #

On the Sitejet Builder page click on the appropriate button (Try Sitejet, Edit Site, or Continue Editing) for the URL you want to edit. You will see all the sbudomains you’ve created on your account, even those with existing websites. Only open the Sitejet Builder on sites you plan on building.

Previewing Your Website #

To preview your site, click the Eye Icon at the top of the editor. From there, you can open the preview in a new window to view what the site looks like from the front end. You can also view the website on a tablet or phone point of view by clicking the desired icon in the top middle

AI Writing Tool #

Sitejet offers an AI writing tool within the site. You can access it by clicking the three star icon in the top right corner:

While AI can be a good tool for speeding up the process of website design, it is important to remember your professor’s AI policy within your class. Ask your professor if AI writing is allowed, and view our guides on ethical AI use within a college setting and other ethical AI considerations.

Publishing #

When you are finished editing your site, you can publish to the web by clicking the rocket ship in the top right corner. Just like WordPress, you can still edit pages and content on your site after it is published, but you will have to always republish in order for it to update.

Sitejet offers a community forum where you can ask questions and get advice/help from other users.
